The return begins before the organism knows it's returning. The cell membrane comes back to itself sixty times a second. The heartbeat comes back seventy times a minute. The circadian rhythm comes back every twenty-four hours. The framework starts here because caring starts here — at the biological substrate, where mechanism and mattering are closest to each other and the seam between them is thinnest.

Clinical Psychiatry & the DPDR Reframe

The DPDR reframe is immediately actionable. If DPDR is the collapse of return rather than emotional inhibition, treatment targets shift. The Michal finding on mindful breathing already points there — training micro-return partially restores macro-return. The six clinical predictions in Movement VIII are the framework's empirical test. If the predictions hold, the framework moves from philosophy to science.

The 2025 Černis scoping review already points this direction. If the return structure is the right frame, DPDR becomes not a disorder but a dimension: the degree to which the return mechanism is intact. The return reaches across the interval and finds absence, and the finding-of-absence is the grief. That reframe explains why grief doesn't "resolve."

If addiction is captured return — fidelity redirected toward a substance that mimics the return's felt quality without its developmental depth — then the therapeutic target isn't willpower.
